Tropical Rainforest The Flora

Plants of the forest floor. Despite the heavy canopy cover that sees little light reaching the forest floor, many small plants manage to irk out a "livelihood" on the forest floor. Most of these are shade plants that have successfully evolved to a life of low light. 

 

Numerous species figs are common in the rainforest.

A pitcher plant.

 A plant that decided against growing from a seedling jumping straight to start life as a small tree. Out of the ground and out of the blue (figuratively nowhere) this plant just sprouted into a small tree.

Two weeks later the sapling is a already a small trees of over 1 and half meters height with leaves outspread. This is probably a giant leave of a species of plant related (or might be a species of the same genus) to the Titan arum (Amorphophallus titanum).

Of course this is small compare to the giant Titan arum.

The fruit after the flower had faded. This definitely looks like a small scale version (miniature) of Amorphophallus titanum. The ripening of the fruit appears reversed, with those at the tip ripening first and those at the base, last.
